The Vasilopita

Published on

On Saturday afternoon on the feast of Agios Athanasios the shown sparkled bright over the waterfront as members, friends and supported gathered at Blu Blu to cut the Vasilopita for the Mykonos Cancer Association "Dynami Psychis."

"Have a good year," was the greeting of choice as many members and friends had not seen each other since before the Christmas Holidays.

Father's Petros Maragos and Giorgos Kousathanas were on hand to give the blessing. Association President Natasha Kammi welcomed the attendees and thanked representatives of the various community clubs and associations that were on hand to celebrate 2025.

Natasha announced that four programs were in the works for 2025.

A team would be visiting the newly established oncology unit at the hospital in Syros this week to discuss how services could be offered to members both travelling to Syros or with the oncologist coming to Mykonos--making treatments less of an overwhelming journey for patients.

Secondly, a seminar on "water" is set for the end of March on what water is okay to use and what is not for cooking, consumption, etc.

Thirdly, the association has been given use of the Community Center space on the Plateia in Ano Mera to use as a temporary headquarters. Members will be on hand every Sunday mornings to field questions and offer information from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

A seminar is also in the works for the spring on Melanoma. Dermatologists will provide free screenings for skin cancer as well as an informative presentation.

The lucky winner of the Flouri was the granddaughter of Board Member Suzy Chaniotis--Popi Papoutsas.

The Flouri, from the 2025 select collection of Lalaounis Jewellers, was donated by Katerina Lalaounis.
